Children's Sacramental Programme
Jubilee Catholic Parish follows the Sacraments of Initiation for Children Policy of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, click on link for further information brisbanecatholic.org.au/
Children who have already been baptised into the Catholic Church complete their initiation into the Church through the sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. In an experience of God’s abundant mercy they will celebrate the sacrament of penance or reconciliation.
It is parish-based, family-centered and school-supported if they attend a Catholic school. Essentially there is a partnership in which families and the Parish community work together as the child is nurtured in the practice and love of the Catholic faith.
The parish is responsible for establishing and running sacramental preparation and for the celebration of the sacraments.
The family is where faith is learned and lived. Parents, the first educators of their children, share with them the Catholic faith and experience of belonging to the Church. They are best placed to discern their child’s readiness for the sacrament. The presumption is that these families live in and/ or worship here in Jubilee parish.
Children attending Catholic schools are also educated about the Sacraments within a curriculum framework from Prep to Grade 6.
What is involved is explained at a compulsory parent information session. A preparation workbook is explored within the family home. It is also expected that children and their families regularly attend Mass.
