Infant (up to 3yrs old)

baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God and, along with the other sacraments, begins a lifelong journey of meaning, dignity and faith.

It has been the tradition of the Church to baptise infants and allow the parents with the support of the community, to hand on the faith to their children.  Our parish based sacramental programme supports this process.

For us here at Jubilee, baptism means being welcomed in the Church and being part of the worshiping, Eucharistic community that gathers each weekend.   If an infant has not been baptised then we do not baptise older children until they are in a position to make a conscious faith decision about joining such a worshiping Eucharistic community.

Those parents with new born babies wishing for them to be baptised are reminded of the preparation meeting which takes place at St Joan of Arc church, Herston, beginning at 7pm on the first Wednesday of each month. At this short preparation meeting we outline some of the symbols used at the ceremony, answer any questions and finalize dates. Further details can be obtained from the Parish Office.

-  Baptism Preparation for older Children

Sometimes there are children who have not been baptised, yet, each Sunday sit with their parents as they celebrate Mass. Once a year, during Lent, we will be conducting preparation classes for these older children so that they can be baptised at our Easter celebrations.

After they have been baptised they then have the opportunity of joining our Jubilee Sacramental Programme to receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion, Reconciliation and Confirmation (it is very important to register in order to be part of this programme).

The preparation classes will be held in conjunction with our normal Sunday Masses. To register please contact Fr Peter at the Parish Office 3369 5351 or talk to our Sacramental Coordinator, Jenny Donnelly on This email address is being protected from spambots.
